The Barbee Hotel

In the roaring ’20s, gangsters Al Capone and John Dillinger used the Barbee Hotel as a hangout. While some claim the ghost of one of their female victims haunts the hotel and can still be heard moaning from her fatal gunshot wound, others say Dillinger himself still stays in Room 316. Whatever spirits may lurk there have made the Barbee Hotel one of the most famous local haunts.

Today, The Barbee Hotel remains a fully functioning hotel and restaurant with some of the best food and entertainment around.

For more information on the Barbee as well as information on the historical “Al Capone Dinner Show” contact Mary Kittrell at the Kosciusko County CVB, 800-800-6090, mary@koscvb.org.

City-County Athletic Complex

The place to be in the summer months is at the City-County Athletic Complex, where the competition is intense from the eight softball diamonds to the many soccer fields. Leagues and tournaments for men, women and youth consume the CCAC’s summer season, but watch for more exciting sports venues to develop at the county’s only sports complex.

The CCAC is one of Northern Indiana’s premiere sports complex with over 20 regional and state tournaments utilizing this facility each year.

Warsaw Biblical Gardens

Herbs, flowers, trees and plants of the Bible have come to life in this beautiful setting in Warsaw’s Center Lake Park. A peaceful stream flows through the gardens where meditation is possible and the tranquility of a holy place is all consuming. Open dawn to dusk from April 15 through Oct. 15 each year, the Biblical Gardens is the perfect backdrop for weddings or a peaceful stroll.

Central Park

Whether it’s a day at the beach, a game of tennis or basketball or a playground outing with the kids you seek, Center Lake Park has it all. From the sandy shores to the grassy yard where a brand new entertainment stage has already welcomed country music superstar Chris Cagle, it’s here where great things await.

Located in the heart of Warsaw, the park is where thousands of Christmas lights and hundreds of holiday displays light up the winter skies. It is also here where community festivals and events are held throughout the year, and it is home to the Biblical Gardens and other gorgeous gardens filled with bright blooms.

Picnic facilities, shelters and a pavilion are also available to the public for small parties or large gatherings.

Cultural Centers

Arrowheads are still sometimes found in the fields of Kosciusko County. It is here where Indian chiefs settled their tribes and it is here where their memories have remained, buried in time.

Through Kosciusko County’s many cultural centers, the rich history of the land, its people and its evolution through time and generations have been well documented and preserved.

The Old Jail Museum, Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum, Billy Sunday Historical Site Museum, Pound Store Museum, Winona History Center, and even the Lawrence D. Bell Aircraft Museum offer glimpses into days and people long forgotten, but still credited for the rich culture their legacy has provided.
